A ilha de Arturo (“Arturo’s Island” in English), by Italian Elsa Morante, takes place right before World War II in Procida, an island in the Naples region where the character lives a life of freedom and imagination. The 14-year-old boy idolises his father, who spends most of his time on mysterious journeys that feed Arturo’s daydreams. Novel of complex and contradictory formation, where learning is eroded by brutal and uncontrollable emotions, brings a narrative that mixes realism and tones of fable, nostalgia and illusion. The cover design blends Arturo’s imagination with his father’s blond hair and the ocean waves surrounding the island. The volume is hardcover bound with special gold paper, with titles and drawings printed in silkscreen.
