The design of the book was developed based on the concept of passage of time, a core question in Marina Abramović’s performing art, clearly stated in the biography’s title: When Marina Abramović dies. When beginning reading, the word VIDA [life in portuguese] can be seen on the right side of the book, in the fore-edge. By flipping the pages, the word VIDA fades away as the word MORTE [death in portuguese] starts appearing on the other side. The book itself becomes a performance, in which duration is determined by the reader. On the cover is the description of the performance planned by Marina for the event of her own death, which names the book. The use of red color lettering with the black and white pictures is not a random choice, as Marina Abramović claims that red color is a source of energy in her performances and also in her life.
